The number of individual frames displayed per second in a video, measured in fps.
Technical Detail
Video frame rate determines motion smoothness. 24 fps is the cinema standard (creating the 'film look'). 30 fps is standard for TV/web in NTSC regions. 60 fps is preferred for gaming and sports content. 120+ fps is used in slow-motion capture. Higher frame rates exponentially increase file size and encoding time. Variable frame rate (VFR) adapts to content complexity but can cause audio sync issues in some editors. For web delivery, 30 fps is typically optimal for quality-to-bandwidth ratio.
